Disciplinary Policy

  • Expectations
    • Children
      • Children involved in Metro Kids’ Club are expected act in accordance with the rules of Metro Kids’ Club, as well as the rules of the location at which they attend (see Location Rules). Children are also expected to cooperate with Metro Kids’ Club staff, and are to treat other members of the club with respect.
    • Parents
      • Parents/guardians of Metro Kids’ Club members are expected to encourage their children to follow Metro Kids’ Club rules.
    • Staff
      • Metro Kids’ Club staff members are expected to discipline children in accordance with the guidelines detailed in this policy.
        • Every instance of an infraction that is described in this policy is to be handled as described in this policy.
      • Employees can never, under any circumstances, physically reprimand a child. Doing so is grounds for termination of employment.
  • Types of Infractions
    • Level 1: Mild Harassment/Physical Infraction
      • Non-physical or mildly-physical infractions that are directed towards other children.
      • Examples: excessive roughhousing (e.g. pushing children), heated quarrelling with other children, etc.
      • Disciplinary Action: verbal warnings will be issued for occasional infractions of mild severity. If infractions are chronic or severe in nature, a time out may be issued. Written warnings and conferences may be implemented if these behaviors become typical of the child, or if the infraction explicitly harms another child.
    • Level 2: Behavioral Infraction
      • Non-physical infractions that are directed towards staff members.
      • Examples: disregarding staff directions, throwing tantrums, improper use/damaging of Metro Kids’ Club property, etc.
      • Disciplinary Action: verbal warnings will be issued for occasional infractions. If infractions are chronic, a time out may be issued. Written warnings and conferences may be implemented if these behaviors become typical of the child.
    • Level 3: Severe Harassment/Physical/Sexual Infraction
      • Severely-physical or sexual infractions directed towards other children.
      • Examples: physically harming another child (e.g. striking children), explicitly-sexual harassment, etc.
      • Disciplinary Action: depending on the severity and regularity of the infraction(s), a child might be suspended or expelled from Metro Kids’ Club activities, but not before conferencing with a parent/guardian.
  • Disciplinary Action
    • Steps
      • Verbal Warning
        • A spoken indication of a child’s infraction.
      • Time Out
        • Supervised suspension of child in that location’s designated time out space.
        • Time spent in time out should not exceed 1 minute per age of the child (e.g. 8 minutes for an 8 year old). This time may be increased in the event of repeat infractions.
      • Written Warning/Incident Form
        • A formal advisory notice of a child’s infraction.
        • Will accompany any further degree of disciplinary action.
      • Conference
        • Parents/guardians meet with Metro Kids’ Club management and involved staff to discuss child’s behavior in the club.
        • More severe disciplinary action cannot be taken without conferencing with a parent/guardian.
      • Suspension
        • Temporary banning of a child from all Metro Kids’ Club activities.
        • Any instances of suspension should not exceed 7 days.
        • Will not occur without a conference with the child’s parent/guardian.
        • Suspension can be implemented immediately after a conference is held.
        • For questions concerning billing in the event of a suspension, refer to Metro Kids’ Club Parental Policy.
      • Expulsion
        • Permanent banning of a child from Metro Kids’ Club activities.
        • Will not occur without a conference with the child’s parent/guardian.
        • Expulsion can be implemented immediately after a conference is held.
        • For questions concerning billing in the event of an expulsion, refer to Metro Kids’ Club Parental Policy.
    • Appeals
      • Parents/guardians of children may appeal their child’s suspension or expulsion via a conference with Metro Kids’ Club management.
      • Parents/guardians should be prepared to present a case as to why their child should not receive said disciplinary action.
      • Metro Kids’ Club is not obligated to repeal any disciplinary action.
